Eastbound lane of Route 52 causeway to be closed overnight

Route 52 eastbound will be closed to traffic along the entire causeway, from Somers Point into Ocean City, Wednesday, Oct. 3 from 10 p.m. until around 6 a.m. Thursday morning.

The overnight closure is necessary to accommodate construction crews as the $400 million causeway replacement project nears completion. The work has been scheduled for overnight hours to minimize inconvenience to motorists.

Traffic will be detoured to the Ocean City-Longport Bridge or to the 34th Street Bridge.

NJDOT opened the new causeway to full capacity back in May. Since that time, construction activities have been focused on completing the numerous public amenities included in the project.

Work is still on track to wrap up by the end of the calendar year 2012.

Variable message signs on Route 52, Route 9 and the Garden State Parkway will alert motorists of the detours.
