Helm competed in the 2012 National Junior Shuffleboard Championships in Lakeside, Ohio and won first place in the boys 15 and under division. Helm will be sophomore at Ocean City High School in the fall and has been playing shuffleboard for the last five years.

His mother Cathy Helm explained, “Alec began playing shuffleboard by chance five years ago while we were vacationing in Hilton Head, SC. Now, he plays as a member of the Ocean City Shuffleboard Club, where he also serves as their first webmaster.”

Cathy Helm and her son drove to Ohio for the competition. He was invited to attend the 2012 International Championships later this month in Seattle, but will not be attending. He also qualified for the Junior Internationals for 2013.
