Kite Festival winners announced

OCEAN CITY — Ocean City celebrated Fourth of July with its 36th annual Kite Festival, held on the beach and boardwalk in front of the Music Pier. Air Circus decorated the sky with several kites and windfeathers, and the contest began at 6 p.m. The winners in each of the categories of the 2012 kite contest are:

Best Homemade Kite: JoJo and Mallory Bevilacqua from Millville; Emily and Claire Hainesport

Smallest Kite: Joe Gudonis from Philadelphia

Largest Kite: Tyler Smith, with Barry and Justin from East Orange

Best Stunt Kite Flyer: Pat Gaffney from Plymouth Meeting; Freddy Amsterdam

Highest Flying Kite: Ethan Frantz from Reisterstown, Md.

Most Patriotic Kite: Jon Wiedorn from Yardley, Pa.

Oldest Kite Flyer: Paul Wiedorn from Bryn Mawr, Pa.

The kite contest was followed by yo-yo demonstrations and free styles by Team Air Circus, as well as beginner and advaned yo-yo contests, and a hula hoop championship. Live music was provided by the Tidal Wave band leading up to the fireworks at 9:30 p.m. All of the events were sponsored by the city of Ocean City and Air Circus.  coolest kite coolest kite Most Patriotic Kite: Jon Wiedorn from Yardley, Pa.
