Flanders donates furniture to Rescue Mission’s Project Restart

The Flanders in Ocean City donated several large pieces of furniture, including mattresses, couches and armoires, to the Atlantic City Rescue Mission Friday, May 4. -- Claire Lowe OCEAN CITY — Atlantic City Rescue Mission officials visited The Flanders on Friday, May 4 to pick up a used furniture donation for the mission’s Project Restart.

The donation is in conjunction with recent renovations, and was coordinated by Pete Voudouris, president of The Flanders hotel and condo association. Bill Southrey, CEO of Atlantic City Rescue Mission, and Tom Davidson, director of development at the mission, were present to accept the donation.

The mission aides the homeless through their recovery with restorative care programs, education and job training and permanent housing placement. When a person is able to leave the mission and move into their home or apartment, they need furniture. That’s where Project Restart kicks in. Clients are able to go to the mission’s warehouse and pick out all of their furniture and house keeping needs from community donations including beds, dressers, televisions, appliances, kitchenware, bedding and almost anything else.

Project Restart is an absolutely free service to all mission clients who have graduated from recovery programs and ready to move into permanent housing. The mission even makes deliveries and setup.

Last year, the mission placed well over 500 people into permanent housing alone.

“We are very proud and thankful to have the local support of organizations like The Flanders Hotel who still make it their business to help others and serve their community,” Southrey said.
