Members of the Miss Night in Venice committee recently met at the home of Pat Gillian to finalize plans for the upcoming event.
During the meeting, entrants met with the committee that is co-chaired by Pat Gillian and Sam Capizzi, and committee members Maryann Jones, Sue Doll, Cathy Finnegan, Alice Wolf, Maribeth Neall and Nancy Ely.
Contestants are Megan Reilly, Brittany Lane, Michele Snyder, Jessica Costello, Lyndsey Jackson, Allison Abramowitz, Jennie Kerbeck, Ashlyn Laveson, Chloe Fama, Kaitlyn Saal-Ridpath, Caroline Bowman and April Stein.
Contestants had publicity photos taken by Don and Carol Kravitz and picked up containers, donated by Johnson's Popcorn, for collecting donations. The contestants received Miss NIV T-shirts, which they will wear in the Cedar Beach Fourth of July Parade.
Sponsored by area businesses, the twelve contestants will solicit donations throughout the community. The one who collects the most donations, which this year will benefit the Ocean City High School After Prom, Sunshine Foundation, HERO Campaign and Shore Memorial Hospital nursing scholarships, will be crowned Wednesday, July 25 at 7:45 p.m. prior to the Pops Concert at the Music Pier. A scholarship will be awarded to two of the Miss NIV contestants upon graduation from OCHS.
Contestants will parade in convertibles along the boardwalk from Fifth to 14th streets prior to the crowning on the Music Pier. The queen and her court, along with all contestants, will reign over the city's Night in Venice boat parade on Saturday, July 28.
