OCEAN CITY — The Ocean City Pops and Greater Ocean City Theatre Company team up to kick off their 2012 Summer Broadway Series with a production of “Crazy For You,” the tap musical, 7:30 p.m. July 1, 3 and 5 and 2 p.m. July 5 at the Hughes Performing Arts Center, Sixth Street and Atlantic Avenue.
“A true Broadway spectacle, ‘Crazy For You’ embraces the excitement of live theater with dynamic dancing, iconic music, and features an Americana theme perfect for July 4 festivities,” said Michael Hartman, OCTC artistic director. “The music of George and Ira Gershwin mixed with Ken Ludwig’s comedic script set the pace for an outstanding outing at the theater right here in Ocean City.”
“Crazy For You,” has been billed as the “new” Gershwin musical. Bobby, a city boy, dreams of making it big on Broadway, but his mother disagrees with these dreams and wants him to remain in the family banking business. Business takes him to Deadrock, Nev., where he meets Polly, a small town girl who wants absolutely nothing to do with his big city ways. Bobby falls head over heels in love with Polly. The only problem is that she doesn’t return these feelings. Songs include “Someone To Watch Over Me,” “I’ve Got Rhythm” and “Can’t Be Bothered Now.”
Tickets are now on sale. Call 525-9248, see www.ocnj.us/boxoffice or visit the Ocean City Music Pier box office. All seats are $25 per person and advanced reservations are encouraged.
The 2012 Broadway Series continues with “Cinderella,” Aug. 14-16 and “Hairspray” Sept. 2, 4 and 5.
Tickets for those shows are currently on sale at www.ocnj.us/boxoffice.
