Veterans’ organizations in Somers Point held a memorial ceremony Friday, Sept. 21 for national POW-MIA Recognition Day. They remembered area prisoners of war and those who are missing in action from New Jersey during a ceremony held at PatriotPark. The names of each were read and a glow stick placed next to an American Flag in the flower bed and saluted. The first name to be read was Capt. Richard Somers who is believed to have been buried in Tripoli, Libya, following a naval conflict with Barbary pirates.
