Members of the Mays Landing Cub Scout Pak No. 254 hope their hand-drawn postcards will brighten up the daily life of the members of a military family.
HAMILTON
TOWNSHIP
- During the April meeting of Mays Landing Cub Scout Pack 254, the boys participated in a letter-writing campaign with the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1254 of Mays Landing.

They were helping out Melissa Davenport, who is auxiliary president. Davenport is promoting a program called “Operation Appreciation” which is sponsored by Blue Star Families.Org.

She encouraged pack members and their parents to sign free postcards and draw pictures to show support to military children who are located around the United States.

“We here in the U.S. always think of our U.S. servicemen and women, but we sometimes forget about the families that are left behind during deployments,” she said. “These pictures and postcards are just a little something to brighten the military family’s day and let them know that we are thinking of them.”

The unit’s goal is send 500 postcards by May, Davenport said.

Anyone interested in helping her and participating in the program may contact Davenport at (609) 625-2169.
