EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – The initial autopsy on the body of an Egg Harbor Township woman found along Fork Road in the Cardiff section of the township on Thursday, Dec. 13 was inconclusive, Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office spokeswoman Haleigh Walz said, noting a ruling on the cause of death is pending further investigation.

Amber Swigert, 29, was found dead at the scene by Egg Harbor Township Police after a motorist called 911, stating he observed her body on the side of the road near the intersection at the Black Horse Pike, Walz stated in an official news release.

Walz stated that the Major Crimes Unit and the township police are investigating. Anyone with information pertaining to her death is asked to contact the prosecutor's office at (609) 909-7666 or township police at (609) 927-5200.

Fork Road is near the Davenport Complex, which handles pre-k through third grades. Assistant Superintendent Pedro Bretones said district officials had been in contact with police, who assured them that there was no reason the school community to be alarmed.

"They said they had the situation contained and no one was in danger," Bretones said. "It's business as usual for us."

He said there was no need to inform the students of the situation.

"Rather than highlight it and bring it to their attention, we will handle questions by the students individually so as not to draw attention to it."

Fork Road was the location of another recent death. On May 14, 21-year-old Klevins Exantus of Egg Harbor Township committed suicide by stabbing himself multiple times after running into the woods to escape police.

The story is developing. Check back for details.
