VENTNOR – Thursday is the last opportunity for residents to comment on a proposal to bill water and sewer customers by usage.
The Ventnor City Commissioners are expected to approve a pair of ordinances at its 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14 to set water and sewer rates charged by the Ventnor City Water and Sewer Utility. Both measures passed unanimously on first reading Thursday, Feb. 21.
Currently, customers are charged $693 per property for combined water and sewer usage for 65,000 gallons of annual usage. Under the proposed change, property owners will be charged a base fee and also charged per 1,000 gallons of usage. Billing will also be switched to quarterly from twice per year.
If approved, customers will pay $176 annually for water connection. In addition, $1.05 will be charged per 1,000 gallons of water usage, except during July, August and September. During those months, the rate is $1.46 per 1,000 gallons.
The annual sewer connection charge is proposed at $173. Customers will be charged, if approved, $3.60 per 1,000 gallons of usage. That rate will also increase during July, August and September to $5 per 1,000 of sewer usage.
Billing will occur quarterly: March 15, June 15, Sept. 15 and Nov. 15.
