VENTNOR – The local school tax rate is expected to remain flat for the second straight year.
The Ventnor Board of Education approved its 2013-3014 school budget at its Wednesday, Feb. 27 meeting. For the third straight year, the tax levy, or the amount that taxpayers will fund, remained the same at $17.48 million and the total budget increased $58,077 over last year, bringing the total to $21.59 million.
The school portion of tax rate is also expected to remain the same as the past two years at $71.8 per $100,000 of assessed property value.
The measure was approved unanimously. The Board of School Estimate will have the final say at its 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 3 meeting in Commission Chambers, on the second floor of Ventnor City Hall, 6201 Atlantic Ave.
“We are very proud we can improve our technology, do so much maintenance and still arrive at a budget that does not impact our taxpayers,” said board president Lisa Martinelli at the meeting.
In a follow up Monday, March 4, Martinelli added, “It’s a testament to the board negation committee to get that settled with the teachers and everyone working for the bottom line for the citizens of Ventnor.”
