MARGATE – The Margate firefighters FMBA Local 41 is dedicated to helping young people in the community, from their visits to nursery and elementary students to those ready to head off to college.
Firefighter Kevin O’Hara believed strongly in doing whatever he could to help kids. He was a mentor and a role model. When he lost his battle to cancer, the FMBA membership thought it a fitting tribute to name the annual scholarship in his honor.
The Kevin O’Hara Scholarship was awarded to three aspiring Margate students at the Thursday, June 21 City Commissioners meeting. Each student received $1,000 to help defer the cost of their education.
Sidney Becker, Atlantic City High School valedictorian, is headed to Princeton University; John Schall is headed to Rutgers University, and Hannah Marino will be continuing her education at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey this fall.
