Savor September festival starts at wine o’clock Saturday

STONE HARBOR - It’s wine time in Stone Harbor, where the Savor September Food and Wine Festival is set for noon-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 downtown on 96th Street.

Framed by the first-ever tenting of 96th Street, the festival celebrates the fruits of South Jersey: food, wine, art and other products particular to the area. There will be wine tastings and microbrew tastings, food demonstrations by area chefs, seafood and barbecue fare, live music all day and more.

There will be fair-style activities for children, and all are welcome to take off their shoes and join in an old-fashioned grape stomping from 2-5 p.m. Teams of four can sign up to compete in the grape-stomping contest for a chance to win the Golden Footie trophy; sign-ups start at noon.

Entertainment will feature Marnie and Nate noon-2 p.m., The Loosh Catastrophe 2-4 p.m., Ciera Fazio 4-5 p.m., and Eddie Morgan and Reck’d 4 Jazz 5-8 p.m.

Demonstrations and activities scheduled are glass-blowing by Wheaton craftspeople noon-5 p.m., pasta making by Spiaggia Seafood Trattoria at noon, wine charms by Just Bead It 1:30-2 p.m., surf lessons with Wetsuit World 2-2:30, cupcake decorating by Kathy’s Just Desserts and Kitchen Wizards 2:30-3:30, fly fishing with Jim Lutz of Nev-R-Enuf Sportfish, and an ROA Stone Harbor trivia contest.

Admission is free. Fees apply for the tastings, food and some activities.

Additional parking will be available at 80th St. Marina and 80th Street and Third Avenue Jitney transportation service will be available on the island. For information call the Stone Harbor Chamber of Commerce at 609-368-6101 or see www.stoneharborbeach.com.
