The McGarvey family of Ocean City just returned from Brazil. They traveled with the Ursinus College Men's Basketball Team (Mike McGarvey, assistant coach and Kevin McGarvey, team member). The team began their Brazil visit in Sao Paulo and ended in Rio de Janeiro at the Christ the Redeemer Statue. In between, they visited various cities in the mountains and along the coast of Brazil (Guaraja, Sao Bento do Sapucai, Paraty, and Ilha Grande) where the team played three Brazilian professional teams, one against Leandro Barboso, of the NBA Phoenix Suns. The highlight of the trip was a basketball clinic the team gave to the local youth of Sao Bento do Sapucai who typically play soccer, but were enthusiastic learners of basketball. Lake Titicaca in Peru

No smoking, please

Elizabeth and John Bernal of Egg Harbor Township visited the Uros, unique floating Islands on Lake Titicaca in Peru made entirely of reed. Situated in a shallow part of the lake about a 20-minute boat from the shore, this settlement was originally established by the Uros Indians to flee the Incas; now there are more than 40 of these small islands.  These photos were taken on one of the more visited islands where there are public restrooms, a mini-market,  and other amenities for tourists. In the “guest rooms”  (the tee-pees in the background) one can stay for $3 a night.
