Baum family vacation
Kim, Kayla and Kassidy Baum of Mays Landing visited
Universal Studios in Hollywood, Calif., with Dad Kenny, who
is taking the picture.
This is a picture of the Middle Township Gazette as it went
to the Big Kahuna, Half Ironman held in Santa Cruz, Calif.,
on Sept. 7. Lt. MaryCarla Erausquin (center) completed the
event for the first time. Martha Powell, her grand aunt(left),
and Joanne Erausquin, mother (right) were there to see her
come through the finish line. MaryCarla attended Middle
Township High School and is now a resident of San Diego.
Joanne Erausquin is from Cape May Court House. Martha Powell
resides in Santa Cruz and hosted the family visit. The
Gazette makes it to the finish!
Getting a taste of the Old Town
Vi Goss of Absecon visited with her grandson Sean Michael
and his wife, Tess, along with her three
great-grandchildren, Evan, Elliot and Ezra-Sue. They spent
the day visiting the sights of Old Town San Diego State
Historic Park in California and enjoyed a great Mexican
dinner while there.
A California Christmas
Nate, Karen, Ashley and Sasha Peebles of Somers Point were
in Oceanside, Calif., for Christmas and New Year’s, visiting
parents, aunts, uncles and cousins. The Peebles also had a
side trip to visit Mickey and Minnie in Disneyland.
For the month of July, Nancy Stella, of Wildwood, visited
her son, Vince and his wife Trish in San Carlos, California
and accompanied them on their annual vacation to Lake Tahoe.
Vince looks forward to reading his hometown news in The
Wildwood Leader.
The O’Keefe family of Wildwood Crest recently took the
Gazette on a family camping trip to Yosemite National Park.

USS Midway follows The Current
In June, Katherine Whitty of Margate traveled to San Diego,
Calif. with her two daughters, Kathleen Whelan of Cape May
Point and Joan Oates of Malvern, Pa. for her granddaughter
Ellen Whitty's high school graduation. Her son, Michael
Whitty of San Diego, is a retired Navy F-14 pilot, a
commercial airline pilot, and a tour guide for the USS
Midway Museum docked in San Diego. While they were visiting,
her son gave them a private tour of the USS Midway along
with The Current. From left are Michael Whitty, Kathleen
Whelan, Katherine Whitty and Joan Oates.
A moving memorial to U.S. troops
Vietnam veteran John
Ferrera of Margate visited a makeshift memorial in
Lafayette, Calif., to U.S. troops fallen in Iraq. The
counter on the billboard changes as new crosses, stars of
David and Islamic crescents are added. The memorial is
a very dramatic and moving sight along Highway 24 near San
Francisco. The photo was taken Feb. 11 by Barbara

Seeing nature’s beautiful side
Leo and Marcia Orlando of
Margate vacationed in Palm Springs, Calif. in February. They
took The Current on a side trip to Joshua Tree National
Park, which is about a mile above the desert floor and has
incredible rock formations.
Bill, Denise,Beverly & Robert Alessandrini visiting
Hollywood Park racetrack in sunny California with The
Wildwood Leader along for good luck. And it worked! All came
home a winner!
A rocking vacation
Tim and Dianne Kelly and daughter Devon Kelly of Linwood
hiked the Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park near Los Angeles,
Calif. last August.
The zoo at last
Gerry Estep of Smithville traveled to California in July
with her daughter, Kristen. During her travels she went to
the San Diego Zoo for the first time in her life. They
traveled all over southern California from Los Angeles to
Santa Barbara visiting lots of family and friends.
Dwarfed by a Giant Sequoia
The Collins family of Egg Harbor Township went on a spring
break trip to California for a vacation in Sequoia National
Park and San Francisco. Pete Collins, his wife, Mary,
12-year-old daughter Ashley and her friend Rose Davidson
spent a week hiking in 10 feet of snow amid the towering
2,500-year-old Giant Sequoias. Here, Rose, left, and Ashley
sit in front of a cross-section of a fallen Giant Sequoia
tree. They all spent several days in San Francisco, touring
Alcatraz, hiking along the Pacific Coast, and enjoying the
sights, sounds and food of Fisherman's Wharf. And The
Current was there.

East meets West
Oakcrest High School Band Director David Tobias, center, is
surrounded by the Oakcrest Band members at Beverly Hills
High School in California, where the band traveled
in April for four days of sightseeing and amusement park
fun.

The Current goes to Hollywood
Linda Etling of Somers Point and her sister Denise Stratten
of Ocean View visited California in April. They stayed with
their cousins in San Francisco and then drove down the coast
to Los Angeles. They stayed in West Hollywood and took the
Current with them to visit the Hollywood sign.
Bill Weaver of Bucks County, Pa. and Ocean City visited the
Pebble Beach, Calif. area and took in the Pro-Am Tournament
this past February. He took the Gazette for his daughter
Julie Weathers to catch up on Ocean City news. Julie lives
with her husband, Navy Lt. Jeremy Weathers, in Monterey,
Calif., where he attends graduate school.
Pat Donat and Nancy Olivieri of Sea Isle City took the
Gazette to the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, Calif. on Jan.
1.
The Wildwoods and The Wildwood Leader are well represented
here at the Holly Beach Tower in Hollywood, Florida.
Escaping the cold weather are Dorothy and Bill Gannon of
Wildwood, Anne Vinci, Mary Ellen Shields, Peg and Lou Bishop
of North Wildwood, and Betsy and Denny Tomlinson of Wildwood
Crest.
In honor of Tony Pittaluga’s graduation from the Navy in San
Diego in October, the Gazette traveled with his sister
Theresa and wife Nancy. Also shown are mom and dad Patty and
Jim Elberson, his sister Maria and husband John Mazzuca,
aunts and uncles John and Mary Izzi, Terry Keating, Tina
Witherow, Ed and Sue Barr and Danny Konczyk.
Loyal to the corps
Dottie Alton of Longport attended an annual Marine Corps
reunion of her late husband, Ralph Alton, of Fighter
Squadron VMF 115 in San Diego, Calif., in September and made
sure to bring along The Current. She is pictured in front of
an F4U Corsair similar to the one her husband flew in the
Pacific during his service in World War II. Dottie was also
a Marine at the time in the Women’s Reserve. She was a
sergeant stationed at Cherry Point, N.C. The two met there,
married after the war’s end, and raised five children in
Ventnor.
The Current goes Hollywood
Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard was
bustling with movie star look-alikes ... or is this really
Johnny Depp? Only Sue and Heather Gunther know for sure.
They also experienced Venice/Muscle Beach, Rodeo Drive,
Santa Monica Pier and toured Los Angeles, the Queen Mary and
the Warner Brothers Backlot. Traveling with Sue's sister,
who was attending a medical convention, they say they had
all the fun!
Atop the ‘crookedest’ street
Madeleine and Raymond Lewis and their parents, Bill and Dawn
of Galloway Township climbed to the top of the famously
crooked Lombard Street in San Francisco during their
vacation to California the last week in August. The winding
road with hairpin curves that zigzags down one of the city’s
many steep hills is often called “America’s crookedest
street.”
Majoring in travel
Maj. Gen. and Mrs. Don Lynch of Dallas, Tex., and Maj. and
Mrs. Pat Patak of Mays Landing celebrate the 232nd Marine
Corps Birthday Ball at the Marine's Memorial Club and Hotel
in downtown San Francisco, Calif. The trip included touring
the San Francisco Bay area.
Bringing Galloway news to the Golden
State
Lilly Mytyk and Dee Carlino, owners of
Sorella Salon in Galloway, traveled to Fullerton, Calif. to
visit Dee’s son Chris Carlino, formerly of Galloway. Here,
Lilly, Dee and Chris show off a copy of The Current before
leaving it at a sushi restaurant so California residents
could read the latest news from South Jersey.
Colleen Spurlock of Palermo, Tina Spadafora of Ocean City
and Joe Spurlock of Palermo took the Gazette hiking at Muir
Woods on their trip to San Francisco.
In September, Nancy Keough of Ocean City visited San Diego
Sea World with her Gazette and family, granddaughters Julia
and Natasha Keough.
San Francisco surprise
The Marr family of Galloway Township was in shock when they
ran into their neighbors, the Cassin family, while
vacationing in San Francisco, CA, in July. They had to
document this remarkable coincidence by taking a picture
together on Pier 39 with the Current. Shown in back are
Julius Cassin, Laura (a foreign exchange student from
Spain), Laurel Cassin, Lori Cassin, Hailey Marr, Vicki Marr,
and John Marr. Holding The Current are Auggie Cassin and

East Coast meets West Coast
Lilian Koo of Galloway went in September to visit her
daughter Grace in Los Angeles, Calif. In her six-month
pregnancy, Grace even drove to Santa Monica and Santa
Barbara to see the sunset with her mother. Lilian, Grace and
Grace’s husband, Jeff, had many delicious meals together and
enjoyed a picnic and a classic concert at the Hollywood
Bowl.
Vincent and Barbara Rosica of Ocean City took the Gazette on
a visit to the Napa Valley’s wine country via train ride
through the vineyards of California.
California dreaming
The Woods family of Egg
Harbor Township visited the Golden Gate Bridge in San
Francisco, Calif., in December. Shown from left are Julia
Vieg and Kathy, Kaela and Emily Woods (front and center). Vieg
is an exchange student from Germany who is attending Egg
Harbor Township High School. She will be heading home at the
end of June and she’ll be taking along copies of The Current
to share with her community.
Together again in Iowa
Bill Long of
Pleasantville, center, is shown with his father, Dale Long;
sister Cheryl Kemp; mother, Georgia Long; and aunt Betty
Easterday. When Long’s sister arrived from Woodland, Calif.,
to visit with the family at Fort Madison, Iowa, in April, he
had not seen her in 10 years.

City took the Gazette with them to serve as marshals at the Buick
Invitational Golf Tournament at Torrey Pines, in La Jolla, Calif.

Hornsteins of Egg Harbor Township went on a trip to San Diego,
Calif., that included a stop at Legoland in nearby Carlsbad. Shown

Getting their Naval exercise
Linda Santon and Misty Poole of Egg
Harbor Township visited the Navy's USS Midway docked at San
Diego Bay in sunny California in early spring. Linda Santon,
who works for the Federal Aviation Administration, attended
a SANS training course in San Diego as well. They visited
the National Salute to Bob Hope and the military statues.
Several families traveled to California in
January for the wedding of Megan Hope, formerly of Marmora,
and Stephen Garcia. Visiting Alcatraz Island in San
Francisco is Bob Adams, Bob Dowling, Jeff, Patti and
Samantha Dowling, Katie Hope, Roger, Sandy, Nicole and Zac
Colao and the bride and groom.
Surf’s up in California
Shaun Wigglesworth (center) and Robert
Whiteside (right), both of Linwood, traveled to Huntington Beach,
Calif., last summer to visit their friend Tyler Sirna (left) and
attend the U.S. Open Surfing Competition.

The Bellinger family of Somers Point
spent 10 days in San Diego, Calif., in June. The trip included a
stop at Legoland where Aaron, 12, and Nicholas, 9, took time out to

Julie Cusack of Beesley’s Point traveled at Easter
time to California with her grandparents Marian and Pat
Henry of Ocean City to visit cousins Taya and Ziggy Henry of
Berkeley and Krissy Henry of San Francisco. A day was spent
in San Francisco with the Gazette touring the Exploratorium
on the grounds of the Palace of Fine Arts.
Basking in tradition
Alberta and Martin Leventon of Somers Point
are pictured in Coronado, Calif., across the bay from San Diego.
Their first trip to the area was an anniversary gift from their
children 15 years ago, and they have repeated the trip every winter
since. March 9 was their 50th anniversary.

Sunset in California
Beth
Keelan and daughters, Christine, 11, and Lauren, 9, took The Current
to Half Moon Bay, Calif., in October. They spent the afternoon at
the pumpkin patch on the coast and then headed over to the beach for
the evening to watch the sunset. They have a house in Margate and
they love reading The Current.
Poker in paradise
The Demko family is on the move again.
Nina and Bill Demko of Linwood visited Palm Desert and Palm
Springs as well as Santa Barbara, Calif. Their daughters
Ilana and Brooke of Arlington, Va., joined them. While in
California they did lots of sightseeing and shopping and
played plenty of golf and poker.

Beesley’s Point spend Thanksgiving vacation with their grandparents
Marian and Pat Henry of Ocean City, visiting their cousins Eli and
Diego Henry of Hemet, Calif., formerly of Marmora. One day, with the
