Morton's receiveswine award

Wine Spectator wine appreciation magazine has given its 2007 Award of Excellence to all 75 Morton's Steakhouses, including the one in Atlantic City.
Wine Spectator recognizes restaurants whose wine lists offer a carefully chosen selection of "quality producers, along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style." Award recipients must offer at least 100 different wine selections.
“We pride ourselves in the diversity of our wine list and the selection of producers from both domestic and international wineries,” said Tylor Field, vice president of wine and spirits for Morton's Restaurant Group.
Field noted that each Morton's maintains a list of at least 200 wines, with some featuring more than 500. Morton's Atlantic City location, located at Caesar’s, introduced a new wine list Oct. 8.
Most Morton's locations have sommeliers on staff to advise and guide their guests' selections. The Atlantic City Morton's has two employees who recently passed the first level course of the Court of Masters Sommeliers. A sommelier is also known as a wine steward.

Atlantic City Electric parent joins clean energy initiative

Pepco Holdings, Inc., parent company of Atlantic City Electric, is among eight utility companies that have committed to seeking regulatory reforms and increasing investment in energy efficiency from $1 billion to about $1.5 billion annually, according to the Clinton Global Initiative.
This increased investment is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 30 million tons within 10 years, the equivalent of removing nearly 6 million cars from the road and avoiding the need for 50 500-megawatt peaking power plants, PHI said in a news release.
The eight utilities, which represent nearly 20 million customers in 22 states, also committed to creating a national institute for electric efficiency to develop regulations and supporting conferences in the power sector. This institute would be formed within the Edison Electric Institute, which represents the nation’s investor-owned electric utilities.
“If we can provide tools for PHI’s customers to reduce their electricity usage, we can make a measurable contribution to meeting the nation’s environmental challenges and at the same time help customers keep their electric bills affordable,” said Dennis R. Wraase, PHI chairman, president and chief executive officer.
PHI utilities includes Atlantic City Electric, Delmarva Power and Potomac Electric Power Co. and serves nearly 2 million customers. The other utilities involved in this commitment are Consolidated Edison, Inc., Duke Energy, Edison International, Great Plains Energy, Inc., PNM Resources, Sierra Pacific Resources and Xcel Energy.
