Schaffer recognized as Technical School’s Business Partner
CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE -- An ongoing partnership between the Public
Safety Training Center and the Law and Public Safety class at the
Cape May County Technical High School was recognized Oct. 24 when
the school honored Gary Schaffer as its 2007 Business Partner.
Schaffer is the director of the Public Safety Training Center
located near the school in the Crest Haven Complex.
“In addition to opening the training center to students for field
visits, Mr. Schaffer has trained over 35 of our Law and Public
Safety class students as Special Law Enforcement Class One police
officers in the past three years,” said William Desmond, school
superintendent. “He is an active member of Law and Public Safety
class advisory council and provides professional advice on a regular
basis to improve and enhance the LAPS program.”
Schaffer’s commitment to the school includes attending the
Generation Next conference to be more knowledgeable about the Law
and Public Safety Career Cluster and becoming a certified substitute
teacher at CMC Tech to satisfy the state requirement that only
certified teachers may instruct high school students. He also served
as an advisor for a recent Tech Prep grant.
The Business Partner program, now in its seventh year, honors a
local business person from each of the state’s 21 counties for
outstanding support of vocational-technical education in New Jersey.
This year’s business partners ranged from small offices to the some
of the state’s largest employers representing industries as diverse
as health care, automotive, communications and law enforcement.
Nearly 200 people attend the Council’s School-Business Partnership
Awards luncheon including state officials, members of the New Jersey
State Board of Education, county vocational-technical
superintendents, board members and administrators. The New Jersey
Council of County Vocational-Technical Schools is the statewide
association of school board members and superintendents representing
New Jersey’s 21 county vocational-technical school districts.
Enrolling over 64,000 high school and adult students, the county
vocational-technical schools are New Jersey’s primary delivery
system for occupational, vocational, and technical education.
