Women in Business conference is March 14

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — The Cape May County Chamber of Commerce will host its third annual Women In Business – A Professional Development Conference, presented by 1st Bank of Sea Isle City, on Friday, March 14, at the Golden Inn Hotel & Conference Center, located in Avalon.
The conference will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $50 for Cape May County Chamber members; $65 for non-members and includes a continental breakfast and lunch.
The conference will kick off with a celebration of businesswomen when Joan Verplanck, president of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, shares her experience as one of New Jersey’s leading and most influential businesswomen. Following is “Let’s Make a Deal,” a panel discussion on negotiating skills. Three prominent businesswomen from the area will discuss the most effective means to negotiate deals as it pertains to both personal and professional situations. Chris Clemans, owner of Chris Clemans & Co., Inc., Realtors, Joanne Carrocino, FACHE, president of Cape Regional Medical Center, and Donna Lawless, sales manager at Burke Motor Group, are scheduled to lead the discussion.
A new round-table discussion format has been added to the conference this year. Attendees can select from the following 13 topics in which to participate that are pertinent to today’s businesswomen: Political Insight; Professional Team Building Skills; Email Marketing; Internet Safety; Organization Skills; Making Technology Work for You; Gorilla Marketing; Small Business Law and Ethics; Transitions Within Your Career; How to Start Your Own Business; Networking Skills; Approaching Healthcare as a Consumer Product; and Managing Your Volunteer Time and Talents.
The day will conclude with a keynote address, “Your Voice Is Your Treasure…Using Your Voice with Brazen Gentility,” by Judith Coche, Ph.D. Dr. Coche is the founder and director of The Coche Center and The Weekend Retreats. In practice since 1975, she currently serves on the faculty of the Medical School at the University of Pennsylvania. Coche combines a B.A. in Sociology, an M.A. in Psychology and a Ph.D. in Human Development. She has co-authored two books and has trained more than 2,000 mental health professionals. Coche has appeared on numerous national television shows including the Today Show and Good Morning America. Interviews about her work have appeared in newspapers and magazines such as The New York Times, Philadelphia Magazine and Harper’s Bazaar.
