Borek Fund to benefit from Johnson & Johnson program
AVALON -- The Brendan Borek High Tides Memorial Fund, a nonprofit
organization based in Avalon, raises funds to provide comprehensive assistance
for individuals and their families facing pediatric cancer. It will benefit from
a grant made possible by Johnson & Johnson. The contribution has been made in
recognition of extensive volunteer services provided by Johnson & Johnson
company employee Lisa Halteman.
Halteman, an employee of Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies, Inc. in Fort
Washington, Pa., and her husband, Mike Meyer, have been volunteering with the
Brendan Borek High Tides Memorial Fund since the organization’s inception in
1992. Together Halteman and Meyer coordinate the annual surf tournament, which
is the focal event of the charity and one of the largest single-day amateur
surfing competitions on the East Coast. With their leadership, the surf
tournament has been covered by local and national press, including NBC, CBS and
Surfing Magazine, helping to raise considerable awareness of pediatric cancer.
Halteman and Meyer also encourage their son to help whenever possible so that he
can learn the importance of giving.
Each year, Johnson & Johnson recognizes exceptional volunteer achievement by
employees through its Volunteer Recognition Grants, awarded to the organizations
with which the employee volunteers are associated. |
